Elgin Fire Department Open House


The Elgin Volunteer Fire Department is hold an open house in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week on October 18th., 2007 at 7:00 p.m..

All residents of the community are welcome to the Fire Hall. There will be a video on 'Fire Escape In Your Home' and also a video for the children on 'Burn Prevention.'

The firefighters want to make this a family evening to inspect their Fire Hall and to meet the firefighters and to ask any questions you might have.

There will be coffee and donuts served.

Mark your calendar, shine up your dancing shoes, McBale will be playing at the Elgin Community Center adjacent to the Fire Hall on Saturday night November 3, 2007 . Get your tickets early by calling Gary at 756-2609 or Colleen at 756-8063

2007 Petitcodiac Kiwanis Annual Auction


The Petitcodiac Kiwanis Club has selected Thursday, October 18, 2007 for their annual community auction night. The auction will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion on Kay Street, Petitcodiac. Doors will open to the public at 6:00 p.m., admittance plus door prize is free.

The Petitcodiac Kiwanis Club has been providing service to the community and surrounding areas for over 59 years. All funds raised by members have been used to support youth programs, senior services and other programs to the residents of this area.

Some examples are the community center, minor hockey, youth travel, Christmas Daddy's, the ambulance building, the Elgin and Petitcodiac Fire Departments, figure skating, plus university and community college scholarships. The auction is the clubs major fund raising event each year.

The Petitcodiac Kiwanis Club is very grateful for the continued support by the people of the area, which make it possible for the club to be involvement in these programs.

Good News For Petitcodiac and Area

At a press conference on Thursday, October 11, 2007 people gathered to hear MP Rob Moore make an announcement. Mr. Moore informed those gathered that ACOA was supporting the construction of The Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame Museum at a value of $550,000.00. On the part of the Provincial Government, Premier Shawn Graham added the Province was sharing the expense to the value of $250,000.00

The Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame museum will be built on a piece of land owned by the Village of Petitcodiac. This project has been in the making for over three years and was welcome news for all.

Mayor Peter Saunders said that this news was a breath of fresh air for the Village of Petitcodiac which has been hard hit by the closure of Fawcett's Lumber Mill.

Through the winter months the preliminary work will be done in preparation for the sod turning in the spring.
